Brazilian Senate approves new Telecommunications Law

Brazil's Senate has unanimously approved the Complementary Law Project 79, which establishes the new regulatory framework for the telecommunications sector. Telecom operators will now be able to choose whether to continue being concessionaires or receive renewable authorisations periodically to continue operating, becoming owners of the infrastructure. Operators will also be able to switch obligatory investments from public phones and fixed telephony to more profitable services such as broadband internet.
