Broadband work now has to tackle rural areas -Audit Scotland

Thursday 18 August 2016 | 09:51 CET | News
A report by Audit Scotland said that good progress has been made to widen access to high-speed broadband but that extending coverage to rural areas still remains a challenge. At March, 2.2 million out of 2.6 million premises across Scotland had access to fibre broadband (86%), 1 percent more than the Scottish government's original target. More than 500,000 of these gained access through the contracts. The goal of 95 percent is expected to be met by December 2017. However, work has so far focused on easier to reach areas, and the remainder of the roll-out will be more challenging.
