Broadcom releases G.fast vector processor

Thursday 16 May 2019 | 09:20 CET | News
Broadcom announced the production release of the BCM65550, a G.fast 212 MHz system-level vector processor, enabling gigabit broadband services to be delivered to high-density residential areas. The product allows telecom operators to deploy fibre to these locations and leverage the existing installed copper lines for the final gigabit speed connection.

G.fast avoids execution and cost issues related to deploying fibre to customers' homes by providing fibre-equivalent speeds over legacy copper wiring, the company said. With the BCM65550, operators can now support up to 192 lines of vectored 212MHz G.fast for high-density residential sites.

The BCM65550 builds upon Broadcom’s G.fast modem and embedded vectoring platform, the BCM65400, now supporting production G.fast deployments across the globe.

The BCM65550 was released for mass production.
