BT and Huawei complete 40 Gbps NG-PON2 trial

Tuesday 18 October 2016 | 18:15 CET | News
BT's Openreach division and Huawei announced the completion of a FTTP trial which demonstrated 40 Gbps, 10 Gbps and 2.5 Gbps speeds, delivered simultaneously over a single fibre optic cable. The two companies said the trial was the first simultaneous demo in Europe of the NG-PON2, XGS-PON and GPON standards over a single fibre optic cable. These three technologies use separate wavelengths, meaning that they can operate seamlessly on the same passive optical network.
