BT completes Scottish islands undersea cable project

The Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband partners have announced the installation of an undersea telecom project bringing faster fibre to some of Scotland's most remote island communities. The project involved the rollout of 250 miles of fibre and 20 seabed crossings, and is being hailed as BT's most complex sub-sea engineering challenge in UK waters. The network connects 40 island and mainland locations between Orkney and Kintyre, and is part of a network that will bring fibre to 84 percent of the Highlands and Islands by the end of 2016.
