BT Openreach announces trial, pilot for 220/20 Mbps service
BT Openreach will run a technical trial of its Generic Ethernet Access (GEA) FTTP 220/20 Mbps product variant from 1 February to 28 February in four exchange areas. The locations concerned are Bradwell Abbey, Chester South, Exeter and York. Once the trial is complete, the wholesale operator will run a pilot between 1 March and 31 May, expanding the area for the 220/20 Mbps service to the rest of its GEA-FTTP footprint across the UK. BT Openreach will not charge for product rental during the technical trial and pilots, but will continue to charge for connection, managed install, missed appointments and other items. Prices for the 220/20 Mbps product variant will be released closer to launch date, previously announced as summer 2013.
