BT to trial 'fibre to the basement' in City of London

BT Openreach will trial 'fibre to the basement' technology in two buildings in the City of London from January 2015, bringing fibre broadband equipment into their basement or communication rooms and thereby reducing the need for street cabinets, public civil engineering works and road closures. This is the first deployment of its kind in the UK and will bring up to 80 Mbps access from over 130 different service providers to 225 homes in the Middlesex Street Estate and about 50 SMEs at 65 London Wall.
