BTRC to provide more network infrastructure licences

The telecom regulator has decided to change the existing guideline to open up more licences to network infrastructure service providers. The amendment comes as the current licence holders, Fiber@Home Ltd and Summit Communication, failed to develop the countrywide network to the extent that Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) hoped when it handed out the licences four years back, The Daily Star reported online. The two companies did not develop their own transmission networks, but simply leased from the mobile operators' networks and leased them out again, said Sunil
