Burundi invests USD 25 mln in internet network

Burundi has officially launched its USD 25 million project to invest in a fibre-optic cable network to widen access to broadband internet and cut costs, according to The EastArican. President Pierre Nkurunziza told a launch ceremony that the project, which is jointly run by the government and four private firms, is part of a plan to ensure all citizens have access to the internet by 2025. Some 1,000 km of the 1,250 km fibre-optic cable has already been laid, covering nine out of the country's seventeen provinces, the project owners said.
