BVI govt to hold urgent talks over underperforming internet service

Thursday 16 May 2019 | 14:13 CET | News

British Virgin Islands (BVI) premier and minister of finance Andrew Fahie has announced plans to summon the heads of local telecommunications companies to a meeting with a view to resolving the territory’s poor internet. “I intend to call an urgent meeting with the heads of the telecommunications companies operating in the territory to address what we view as a technological crisis,” said Fahie in a statement. He added that a modern communication network that is reliable, efficient and affordable is key to developing the economy of a territory based on tourism and financial services.

Fahie said his office will be asking the local regulatory authorities to look into the matter immediately and that the private sector would be encouraged to invest and develop BVI’s communication architecture to prevent regular outages and bring prices down.
