CA fails to stop KES 25 mln pornography penalty proposal

The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has lost an attempt to prevent the imposition of a KES 25 million fine or 25-year gaol term on people who share and view pornographic material, Business Daily reported. The CA petitioned Parliament to drop changes to the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act 2018 that made it criminal for people aged over eighteen to share, distribute and possess pornographic content. The CA considers that the legal changes will violate the freedom of expression and right to privacy.
