Cameroon education ministry secures university internet fund

Thursday 7 May 2015 | 16:20 CET | News
The Cameroonian government has launched a XAF 400 million special telecom fund to modernise digital infrastructure in the country's public universities, reports Investir au Cameroun. The fund will be controlled by the ministry of higher education and will be used to purchase bandwidth. Internet penetration is still low in the country due to the high price of bandwidth. Only around 400,000 Cameroonians are connected to the internet, or 5 percent of the population, compared to an average of 18 percent across Africa.
