Canal+ fibre project delayed by regulatory hitch in Benin

Canal Plus' subsidiary Canalbox has been asked to halt its fibre deployment in Benin, reports Jeune Afrique, as it lacks the appropriate regulatory licence to carry out the project. The news that the company planned a fibre deployment in the country emerged in January, when it signed an agreement with Benin electricity provider SBEE (Societe Beninoise d'Energie Electrique) to use the latter's electricity pylons to deploy fibre-optic cabling. The move coincided with the acquisition of an ISP licence, which was secured with the purchase of local ISP EIT (Espace Informatique Benin). However,
