Canal Plus' myCanal platform informs PC/MAC users of CO2 impact of video quality

Friday 2 October 2020 | 16:37 CET | News
French broadcaster Canal Plus is letting subscribers of its myCanal streaming platform choose between three video quality tiers for content accessed via PC/MAC screens, informing viewers of the CO2 impact at different resolutions (480p/720p/1080p-4K). The customer service team posted on Twitter a screenshot of this information, showing that each hour of streaming at the highest resolution (1080p-4K) emits the equivalent of 43-52 grams of carbon dioxide, depending on the equipment used. The impact is 70 percent lower when viewing video at the minimum streaming rate of 480p.
