Cartel office stops ad initiative against piracy

An initiative by copyright owners and the advertising industry in Germany to inhibit advertising on online portals where copyrights are infringed was halted after resistance from the Federal Cartel Office, Handelsblatt reports. The initiators of the project were planning to start a so-called 'information point for online advertising and copyright' (HOWU), with the aim of creating a list of relevant pirate portals. The initiative contacted the cartel office for the first time in 2013 when the antitrust agency suspected that HOWU could violate vigilante law. Later on the cartel office
