CEA-Leti researchers hit record 7.7 Gbps in LiFi lab test

Friday 12 June 2020 | 13:52 CET | News
French research institute CEA-Leti has announced a new step forward in Light Fidelity (LiFi) communication, achieving a data transmission rate of 7.7 Gbps using a single GaN blue micro LED. Researchers said that they have broken the previous throughput world record of 5.1 Gbps, and described the achievement as further demonstration that LiFi has exciting potential for mass-market applications. The scientific team used its expertise in producing micro LEDs that are among the smallest in the world, reaching the record throughput with a 10-micron micro LED.
