Chennai ops halted, Microsoft to import phones from Vietnam

Wednesday 8 October 2014 | 12:44 CET | News
Microsoft Devices (formerly Nokia India) will import handsets from its Hanoi plant in Vietnam instead of the facility owned by Nokia in Chennai, Ajey Mehta, managing director of Microsoft Devices, told The Hindu Business Line. The decision follows Nokia's recent announcement that it is suspending manufacturing at its mobile phone factory in Chennai, India, as a result of its dispute with the country's tax authorities. Microsoft Devices also said that it may consider buying from the India facility in future.
