China Mobile ups amount earmarked for handset subsidies

China Mobile plans to increase handset subsidies by 26 percent this year to a total of CNY 34 billion. The company aims to keep smartphone contract prices low as it faces competition from its rivals, Reuters reports citing chief financial officer Xue Taohai. In 2013, China Mobile spent CNY 27 million on handset subsies. Meanwhile, the amount the operator plans to spend on marketing is expected to remain at the same level as last year.
