China Unicom, Camtel sign deal Cameroon-Brazil cable

China Unicom has signed an agreement with Cameroon Telecommunications (Camtel) for the deployment of an undersea cable connecting Cameroon and Brazil. The contract was signed by China Unicom CEO Yimin Lu and Camtel CEO David Nkoto Emane in Cameroon on 14 October, reports Agence Ecofin. The 5,900 km will be deployed by Huawei Marine Networks, which will build the landing station in Kribi, Cameroon, with Telefonica handling the landing station in Fortaleza, Brazil. The cost has been put at XOF 278 billion (approximately USD 438 million).
