China's IM market hits 1.57 bln

In Q3, there were 1.57 billion mobile instant messaging (IM) accounts in China, up 6.1 percent from the second quarter and up 74.4 percent year-on-year. Of the total, 830 million were active accounts, up 7.8 percent sequentially and 72.9 percent year-on-year, the Digitimes writes citing research by Analysys International. Tencent Mobile QQ led the market with a 47.0 percent share, followed by WeChat with a 30.3 percent share, Fetion with a 10.9 percent share, and MSN with a 3.5 percent share of the IM market.
