China's smartphone market declines 6.4% in Q1

The Chinese smartphone market fell 6.4 percent in the first quarter compared, to the fourth quarter of 2013, according to Digitimes Research. The study said consumers are delaying purchase and replacement plans because handset vendors are postponing the release of low-cost 4G models to the second quarter due to high inventory levels of 3G smartphones. South Korea's Samsung Electronics was the leading manufacturer in China, in terms of shipment volumes, followed by Apple, Xiaomi Technology and Coolpad.
