Cisco, Ciena deploy IPoDWDM on Sprint network

US mobile operator Sprint Nextel, Cisco and Ciena have implemented 40 Gbps network capabilities on the global Sprint Tier 1 IP network using a technology called IP over dense wavelength-division multiplexing (IPoDWDM). The implementation of IPoDWDM eliminates client connections between the router and DWDM system and increases bandwidth four times by transmitting 40 Gbps across an existing 10-Gbps DWDM system.
