CNMC wants increased regulation of directory inquiry numbers

Monday 16 January 2017 | 15:12 CET | News
The Spanish regulator CNMC has proposed increasing regulation of directory inquiry numbers, using the number series 118AB. The need for increased regulation stems from a growing number of cases against the operators for unfair practices, such as transferring callers to numbers without their consent, inappropriate use of the numbers for premium-rate services and deceptive advertising. To better protect users, the regulator proposed to the government to classify the number series as premium services, so they are subject to limits such as the maximum duration of calls and use by minors.
