Colombia needs at least 7,000 more base stations - govt

Colombia has a deficit of 7,000 to 10,000 mobile base stations and urgently needs to cut red tape if the country is to meet the increasing demands of telecommunications users, reports local daily La Republica, citing experts from the ICT ministry. Although Colombia's internet connections have soared by 2.8 million over the past year alone, most of them via mobile networks, the current footprint of around 14,000 base stations can no longer cope with the country's estimated 28.4 million broadband users, said the report, adding that regional red tape is blamed for delays in installing the
