Colombia registers 36.4 mln mobile phones

Tuesday 6 September 2016 | 10:47 CET | News
Colombia's Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism (Mintic) has announced that some 3.4 million mobile phones were registered in August to bring the total number of devices added to the central register over the past year to 36.4 million. Local operators are now required to verify and identify all IMEI phone identity numbers via a central register with a view to blocking mobile phones reported stolen or lost. Mobile operators such as Claro, Movistar and Tigo have also joined GSMA Latin America's "We Care" initiative to combat trafficking of stolen mobile phones.
