Competition body blocks Telefonica entry into Digital Plus

Spanish competition authority CNC has blocked Telefonica and Mediaset-controlled channel Tele5's respective acquisition of 21 percent and 22 percent of Prisa-controlled satellite TV company Digital Plus on the grounds that the move would endanger free competition in the pay-TV market. According to local press reports, the watchdog would not permit Digital Plus and Telefonica's Movistar Imagenio IPTV service to have 63 percent of Spain's pay-TV subscribers, compared to 24 percent for cable operator Ono.
