Competition body suspends Canal Plus deal with rugby league

The French Competition Authority has suspended an agreement between the national rugby league and pay TV broadcaster Canal Plus which gave the latter exclusive broadcast rights of the Top 14 competition for the next five seasons. The authority said the negotiated agreement reached between the two parties in January is susceptible of anti-competitive collusion. The deal also is prejudicial to the development of beIN Sports, the TV channel that referred the matter to the authority and the only new entrant competing for pay TV sports rights. Canal Plus will be allowed to carry the rugby matches
