Contactless bank card transaction cap to rise to GBP 30

Monday 9 February 2015 | 15:28 CET | News
The UK Cards Association has announced that the transaction cap for contactless payments will rise from GBP 20 to GBP 30 in September. The cap was set at GBP 10 when contactless cards were first introduced in 2007. The decision comes after contactless card transactions rose to GBP 2.32 billion in 2014 from GBP 653 million a year earlier. The surge came from London Transport enabling passengers to use their bank cards instead of Oyster cards last year. According to the body's head of policy, Richard Koch, "Contactless has now firmly stepped into the mainstream."
