Costa Rica connects 19,400 low-income households

Costa Rica has so far provided computers and a fixed internet connection to 19,400 low-income homes under the "Connected Homes" programme of the National Telecommunications Fund (Fonatel), reports local daily Costa Rica Hoy, citing deputy minister of telecommunications Emilio Arias. The state plans to invest USD 128 million to provide a 2 Mbps connection and a laptop computer at a reduced price to a total of 140,000 households by the end of 2018. Fonatel will subsidise 40-80 percent of the total cost, depending on the income of each family, with ICE, Tigo, Coopeguanacaste, Cabletica,
