Costa Rica reinforces mobile phone theft measures

The GSMA has announced that Costa Rican mobile operators Claro, ICE and Telefonica, together with the country's telecoms regulator Sutel and the Deputy Ministry of Telecommunications, have pledged to put into a place a series of new initiatives as part of the "We Care" programme to combat mobile phone theft. The operators will implement the GSMA's IMEI Device Check system, reinforcing measures already underway to fight terminal theft and device trafficking between countries. The system will allow consumers to check the Sutel website in real time when buying a handset, to see whether it
