Cote d'Ivoire halts rise in number of mobile operators

Cote d'Ivoire has decided to not award any more phone licences, said PTT minister Kone Bruno Nabagne at a national conference, Fratmat.info reports. This reverses an earlier policy of further licensing before the end of the year. The market is already too atomised with five network operators serving 15 million people, whereas in France there will be four for over 60 million. There are also two more mobile licence holders in Cote d'Ivoire that have yet to launch services. Some mobile phone users in the country have two, three even four Sim cards from different operators, the minister said.
