Court orders Free to pay EUR 50,000 in damages to UFC

French ISP Free has been ordered by the Paris Court of Appeal to pay EUR 50,000 in damages to consumer protection association UFC-Que Choisir, to cease engaging in a number of illicit practices and to eliminate abusive clauses from its terms and conditions, AFP reports. The court agreed with UFC that the operator's application of what it was calling "deferred collection of activation fees" on its triple play services amounted to cancellation fees, which must be waived for four months after contract terms changed with the country's VAT rise for TV services.
