Court rules against local govts blocking base stations

French local authorities cannot limit the installation of mobile base stations based on the precautionary principle, according to a decision by the country's highest administrative court, the Conseil d'Etat. Le Monde reports that the court ruled that the only bodies empowered to address the issue are telecommunications regulator Arcep and national frequency agency ANFR. Nevertheless, mayors keep a margin of manoeuvre in urgent cases if exceptional local circumstances are involved, according to the ruling.
