Court rules in favour of Telefonica in public payphone row

Spain's supreme court has ruled in favour of Telefonica following a contentious-administrative appeal lodged by the operator against the government's decision to require it to continue maintaining the country's public payphones, reports Expansion. Telefonica lodged the appeal in 2018 after the government issued a Royal Decree ordering the company to continue ensuring that a sufficient number of payphones were available in public areas until the end of 2019. The operator objected to the fact no public tender process was held and it was not permitted to submit any views ahead of its designation
