Court supports Competition decision on French rugby rights

Friday 10 October 2014 | 11:22 CET | News
The Paris Court Appeals has supported a July decision by the Competition Authority that suspended an agreement between France's National Rugby League and pay TV broadcaster Canal Plus giving Canal Plus rights to 5 seasons of the Top 14 rugby competition. Les Echos writes that a new auction will have to be organised by the rugby league by 31 March 2015. Under the deal, Canal Plus would have paid EUR 71 million a year for the broadcast rights. Canal Plus, which was allowed by the Competition Authority to carry the matches for the current season, would not comment on the matter.
