Court upholds cut in South Africa termination rates

The High Court in South Africa has upheld regulator Icasa's decision to lower mobile termination rates from 01 April. The rate will halve to ZAR 0.20 per minute for the largest mobile operators MTN and Vodacom, and a higher rate of ZAR 0.44 is offered for the smaller operators Cell C and Telkom Mobile. Icasa has six months to complete a costing exercise to justify the lower rates. Telkom welcomed the ruling, which followed appeals filed by Vodacom and MTN.
