CSA sets terms as Canal Plus buys free-to-air channels

French audiovisual regulator CSA has given conditional approval to pay TV group Canal Plus's acquisition of Direct 8 (renamed D8) and Direct Star from Bollore. The deal agreed a year ago was already modified by the Competition Authority in July, which imposed terms for the next five yars. The competition body required Canal Plus to sell all its free-to-air rights for major sporting events, in a process monitored by an independent authority, as well as negotiate content rights for the free-to-air channels separately from its pay TV platforms, limiting the company's content from major US
