CSA wants YouTube, Dailymotion taxed as broadcasters

French broadcast regulator CSA's chairman, Michel Boyon, is arguing for YouTube and Dailymotion to pay the same tax as TV channels to support audiovisual production. La Tribune reveals that he wrote to French social website association Asic in March to say that the only differences between on-demand TV and video sharing websites were technological. The end product is the same. He called into question 2009 legislation that sets them apart as content hosts, especially as much of the content viewed on Dailymotion and YouTube was originally broadcast on TV.
