Cuba's Etecsa starts blocking blacklisted phones

Cuba's state-owned telecommunications operator Etecsa has started blocking lines on mobile phones with duplicated IMEI codes, reports Cubanet. The move comes after the operator begun implementing a 2016 decision from the communications ministry that ruled that all users of mobile phones with irregular or duplicated IMEI codes needed to replace the devices by 18 May 2018. Back in May 2016 Etecsa announced that anyone inserting a SIM card into a phone that appears on the blacklist of invalid IMEI codes would have their line blocked.
