Cuba's Etecsa to launch nationwide home internet service

Cuba's state-owned telecommunications operator Etecsa has announced plans to gradually begin commercialsing its 'Nauta Hogar' residential internet service after carrying out a limited trial in parts of Havana, reports news agency Granma, citing the company's sales and marketing director Tania Velazquez. In January the operator launched a trial for 2,000 users in the Cuban capital's old town and it now hopes to expand the DSL service to other parts of the country, eventually reaching 38,000 accesses in a first phase, sales and marketing. Etecsa will increase the speed of the USD 15 a month

It would be a mistake to take this offering nationwide and I doubt that ETECSA plans to do so: http://laredcubana.blogspot.cl/2017/02/there-is-no-cuban-home-internet-plan.html I think this (and WiFi hotspots, 3G mobile, etc.) is a stopgap measure -- waiting until Cuba has the political/bureaucratic will and money to deploy a modern, next generation Internet.
