Dailymotion wins copyright case at Court of Cassation

Friday 18 February 2011 | 10:12 CET | News
France's Court of Cassation, the highest court in the judiciary, has upheld a 2009 appeal court ruling that found video-sharing website Dailymotion not liable for one of its users posting the film Joyeux Noel on its site. The court upheld the decision that Dailymotion was acting as a host, whose obligation is to remove illicit content when informed of its presence. Production company Nord Ouest and distributor UGC Images were ordered to pay Dailymotion EUR 3,000 in court costs, having already paid it EUR 15,000 after the appeal court cast two years ago.
