The Frankfurt-based internet exchange De-Cix set a new peak traffic record on the evening of 12 September, at 5.88 Tbps. Its previous record was 5.6 Tbps. At the same time, the exchange's Madrid and Dubai branches also set new traffic records.

The company said that the new peak may have been due to interest in Apple's product announcement. The roll-out of iOS 11 later this month could result in a new peak, of over 6 Tbps, it said.

De-Cix claims to be the world's largest internet exchange in terms of traffic.
