De Maziere brings data retention law back to the table

German Minister of the Interior Thomas de Maziere (CDU) wants to examine whether a data retention law in a restricted form could be passed despite the earlier failure before the Federal Justice Court as well as the European Court of Justice, Spiegel reports. Minister of Justice Heiko Maas (SPD) does not see any prospect of success for such a bill. Former president of the Federal Justice Court, Hans-Jurgen Papier recommends to go even further in the case of a possible reintroduction of data retention; persons bound to professional secrecy, such as doctors, lawyers, clerics and journalists,
