Demand for Tanzanian .tz domains grows

The Tanzania Network Information Centre said it receives over 400 registrations of the .tz internet domain every month. Simon Balthazar, the organisation's technical officer, told ITWeb Africa that it has over 7,000 domains since starting the extension in 2010. He said there remain challenges to overcome in Tanzania, which has an internet penetration rate of 12 percent. Balthazar told ITWeb Africa that the centre is encouraging Tanzanians to embrace their own identity in cyberspace.
