Deutsche Bahn tests new windows to improve mobile reception on trains

Wednesday 11 March 2020 | 16:13 CET | News
German railway company Deutsche Bahn is testing windows that enable improved mobile reception, Handelsblatt reports. A laser makes the heat-insulating metal layer of the windows so thin, almost transparent, to make it easier for radio frequencies to penetrate in the carriage. According to Deutsche Bahn, the solution works with all mobile radio standards and does not need retrofitting, for example, with the new 5G standard. The tests are carried out under real conditions and should be completed this year, the company said.
