Deutsche Telekom plans to take on fewer trainees

Friday 6 March 2015 | 11:12 CET | News
Deutsche Telekom's workers' council and the trade union Verdi are criticising its plan to reduce its apprenticeship intake from 2,900 per year to 1,700 by 2018, according to an article on the WirtschaftsWoche website. The number of trainees is stipulated in a collective agreement but this is due to expire, and it aims to cut its quota from 2.9 percent to 1.8 percent of its worksforce. Deutsche Telekom said it needs fewer apprentices as it undergoes rapid technical changes. It added that no precise decision had been taken yet on its number of trainees, ad this has to be settled with workers.
