Deutsche Telekom switches to fibre in Hesse to support police communications

Thursday 21 January 2021 | 10:01 CET | News
Deutsche Telekom said it has laid a fibre network in Hesse to replace copper cables to enable the police to communicate over the radio network. Telekom's copper lines connect 496 police radio stations. The copper network needs active technology that in turn constantly needs electricity, which is not the case with fibre-optic. In the future, antennas will be able to run on back-up electricity, so that in the event of a disaster and power cut, emergency services will have radio reception for at least 72 hours.
