Deutsche Telekom, Verdi reach no agreement after first round of wage bargaining

Deutsche Telekom and Ver.di, Germany's union for the service sector, were unable to reach an agreement on wage increases affecting 63,000 employees during their first round of collective bargaining negotiations in Bonn 20 February. Ver.di is demanding an effective increase in wages of 5.5 percent for a twelve-month period as well as a "component" to increase the fairness of earnings. The union is also calling for trainees and dual students to receive a monthly payment increase of EUR 75. Ver.di said that Telekom's "excellent financial performance" and industry prospects justified its demands
