Digicel blasts Guyana govt's failure to end GT&T monopoly

Digicel Guyana has criticized the government's aborted attempt at telecoms sector liberalisation in the country. The statement follows the parliament's failure to pass the necessary legislation which would have "brought an end to more than twenty years of a monopoly on international calls in Guyana". The operator believes that the Parliament's failure to end the GT&T monopoly blocks the possibility of introducing lower international calling rates for Guyana customers. Guyana's government was planning to end GT&T's monopoly on international calls, with the adoption of the Telecommunications
