Digital music sales up 8% in 2011 to USD 2.5 bln

Global digital music revenues grew 8 percent last year to USD 2.5 billion, according to the annual report from the International Federation of Phonographic Industries. Expansion by services such as Deezer, Spotify and iTunes means that major international digital music services are now present in 58 countries, compared to only 23 at the start of 2011. The IFPI estimates that some 13.4 million people subscribe to a digital music service, up 65 percent from 2010.
